The Current Science Association invites applications for Science Writing Fellowship, to work in the editorial office of the journal Current Science.
About Current Science Journal
Current Science, published every fortnight by the Association, in collaboration with the Indian Academy of Sciences, is the leading interdisciplinary science journal from India. The journal was started in 1932, under the editorship of C.R. Narayan Rao, with the support of the then stalwarts of Indian Science, C.V. Raman, Martin Forster and Birbal Sahni among others.
The journal completed the 100th volume in 2011 and the 125th volume in 2023. The journal is intended as a medium for communication and discussion of important issues that concern science and scientific activities. Current Science is read by a large community of scientists and the circulation has been continuously going up. Current Science is indexed by Web of Science, Current Contents, Geobase, Chemical Abstracts, IndMed and Scopus. The Impact Factor of the journal for the year 2022 is 1.0.
Essential qualifications: A graduate degree in any branch of science (B.Sc.). Fellowships will be awarded to a limited number of exceptionally motivated candidates for a period of one year, extendable for a further period of one year depending on performance.
Desirable: Postgraduate degree in any branch of science, literature, journalism or mass communication can also apply for the fellowship. A flair for writing and wide interest in diverse areas of science (physical/
biological/medical/earth, planetary, atmospheric sciences, engineering science as well as in economic/social/management science) with basic computer skills.
Age: Not more than 35 years as on 1 March 2024.
Job description:
- Selected candidates will be expected to write for the News, Research News and General sections of the journal Current Science on a regular basis. Selected candidates are expected to assist the editorial staff in the publication of Current Science.
- The candidates, if selected, should work fulltime and should not take up any other position (full time or part time) that entitles them to any remuneration.
- Selected candidates would be offered a consolidated fellowship of Rs 25,000 per month. A higher fellowship can be considered for deserving candidates depending on qualifications and experience. Evidence of interest in popular science writing may be provided.
