The ICAR-National Institute for Plant Biotechnology (NIPB) is currently seeking highly motivated individuals for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) under the project “Determining the functional significance and validation of the enigmatic non-coding RNAs in drought stress tolerance in chickpea,” funded by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB).

The appointment is purely on a contractual basis, initially for a period of two years with potential for extension based on performance. The selected candidate will receive a monthly stipend of ₹37,000 plus 24% HRA. This is an exceptional opportunity for candidates with a strong background in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or related fields, and with a keen interest in plant molecular biology research.

Essential QualificationsPostgraduate degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, Botany, Genetics, Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology, Plant Physiology, Microbiology, or related fields. Alternatively, a Graduate/Postgraduate degree in professional courses with selection through a national level exam such as CSIR-UGC NET, GATE, etc.
Desirable QualificationsResearch experience in plant molecular biology, gene cloning, construct development, plant transformation, tissue culture, microRNA studies, gene expression analysis, transgenic plant development, genome editing, bioinformatics tools, and scientific writing.

Application ProcessCandidates must attend a walk-in interview with two copies of their application form, CV, and self-attested copies of relevant documents. Original documents must be presented for verification.
Terms of EngagementEngagement is purely temporary and contractual. The position is initially offered for one year or until the project duration ends, whichever is earlier. The contract may be terminated with one month’s notice due to changes in circumstances. No right to employment or further engagement at ICAR after contract termination.
Other ConditionsNo TA/DA will be provided for attending the interview. The Director reserves the right to accept or reject applications. Candidates should regularly check the institute’s website for updates.

Terms and conditions

  1. Age limit: Maximum age is 28 years for Junior Research Fellow (age relaxation of five years for
    SC/ST, women, OBC and physically handicapped candidates.). The minimum age should be 18
    years as on date of interview. A small relaxation in age limit may be considered, in case of
    applicants who are suitably qualified and experienced, on the recommendations of the selection
    committee.
  2. The post is purely temporary and will be filled on a contractual basis for one year or till the
    termination of the project, whichever is earlier. The selected candidate shall not claim regular
    appointment at this Institute, as the post is co terminus with the project.
  3. The interview for eligible candidates will be held online, the details of which will be
    communicated to eligible candidates by email.
  4. Reporting time for online interview will be communicated and all the candidates shall adhere to
    the instructions.
  5. The candidates will have to compulsorily filled in application form (as per the format annexed),
    all the scan certificates from matriculation onwards, date of birth certificate, NET/equivalent
    certificate, degree certificate either original or provisional and a recent photograph enclosed
    onto the scan application form. Proof of experience and publications also need to be sent by email.
    The selected candidate will be required to produce all the original documents and medical
    certificate at the time of joining. Proof of experience and publications also need to be submitted.
  6. No TA/DA/ any other expenses will be paid for attending the interview.
  7. Only the candidates meeting essential qualifications will be interviewed.
  8. Concealing of facts or canvassing in any form shall lead to disqualification or termination of such
    candidates.
  9. The candidate intending to attend the online interview, if any of his near or distant relative is
    an employee of the ICAR/IARI, have to declare his/her name, designation, nature of duties,
    relationship in writing. If on the date of the online interview such declaration is furnished
    and found that his relative is an employee of ICAR/IARI, such candidate will not be allowed to
    appear in the interview.
  10. All the other candidates are also required compulsorily submit the scan declaration duly signed
    in the format annexed along with other documents in the e-mail. The candidates will have to
    submit applications and documents in a single PDF file. The application not submitted in single
    file will be rejected.
  11. In case of any disputes, it will be resolved in the jurisdiction of New Delhi court only.
